Pastoral Clinical Formation

Clinical Chaplaincy: Additional Preparation

Hospital chaplaincy requires attention to illness, grief, personal beliefs, and institutional boundaries. ICN RTIM offers additional preparation by service area, separate from its ten-week basic Christian chaplaincy course. Contact Admissions to discuss the clinical area and current course arrangements.

Preparing for Spiritual Accompaniment in Healthcare

Additional preparation helps applicants consider the responsibilities and limits of spiritual care in healthcare. It does not grant permission to enter or work in a hospital.

Begin with Basic Chaplaincy

The starting course lasts ten weeks and is offered online and in person.

Additional Courses by Area

Ask Admissions about preparation for hospital and other specific settings.

Completion Requirements

Admissions provides the requirements and documentation issued for the particular course.

Responsible Spiritual Care

Respect the patient’s beliefs, consent, privacy, and the boundaries established by the receiving institution.

Your Path into Clinical Chaplaincy

Discuss your background, intended area of service, and location with the director of Admissions before arranging training or institutional service.

Step One: Apply for Basic Formation

Applicants must belong to a Christian ministry and submit a letter of recommendation and a letter of good conduct. Use the application form to request the ten-week basic course.

Step Two: Ask about Additional Preparation

Hospital preparation is an additional course by area. Ask about availability, schedule, learning materials, fees, and completion requirements.

Step Three: Meet Institutional Requirements

Each hospital evaluates applicants and sets its own screening, orientation, credentials, and authorization requirements. ICN RTIM training does not guarantee placement, employment, professional licensure, or third-party accreditation.

Discuss Your Next Step with Admissions

Use the training page for the basic course or contact ICN RTIM to discuss additional preparation for clinical chaplaincy.
